George Swamp
The George Swamp Tract has been in the same family for multiple generations. From November 1830 to November 1858, Rufus K. George received the original patents on much of the property in 8 patents from three presidents, Andrew Jackson, Franklin Pierce and James Buchanan. He also purchased land from adjacent neighbors to put together the tract we call the George Swamp. Rufus and his wife, Desdemona, passed the property down to future generations.  Ancestors of the current owners are buried in a family cemetery on the property. This is the first time the property has been offered for sale to the public since it was acquired from the United States and neighbors before the civil war.  
Seldom is a tract of this size, 2,600 contiguous acres, available for purchase. The tract has multiple age stands of planted pines which gives management opportunities for a sustained regular income. And there are hardwood stands along Sturdivant Creek which runs south to north through the tract. An internal road system with a bridge over Sturdivant Creek offers access to all parts of the tract. The George Swamp Tract is located behind a locked gate at the end of the George Swamp Road 1.3 miles south of Alabama Highway 10 near Awin, AL. The tract is located in Monroe and Butler counties. There are two wells on the property and power to the campsite.
